Intel Inboard 386/PC for IBM PC XT

Producer: IBM - Category: Other Hardware

Accelerator card, 1987, Intel. The Inboard 386/PC is an expansion card that upgrades an IBM PC or XT to a 16 MHz 80386: a ribbon cable from the card plugs into the socket of the original 8088, which is removed, and the card carries 1 MB of RAM plus a socket for a 387 coprocessor. It let owners of the first PCs run Windows and 386 memory managers on their old machines, at a price close to that of a new AT clone. The Inboard 386/AT did the same for the PC AT.
