Development system, 1970s, Intel. The Intellec Microcomputer Development System (MDS) was the tool with which engineers developed software and hardware for Intel's early microprocessors. The system is a large blue box with a card cage on the Multibus, an 8080 processor, a front panel and, in the Series II versions, a built-in terminal with keyboard and 8" floppy drives; it ran the ISIS operating system with assemblers, PL/M compilers and an in-circuit emulator that plugged into the target board. Intellec systems were sold years before the Altair and are among the first microcomputers.
