Video game console, 1983, Nintendo. The Family Computer, or Famicom, is the Japanese original of the Nintendo Entertainment System, released on 15 July 1983 in a red and white case with two hardwired controllers that store in the sides of the console, the second one with a microphone instead of the start and select buttons, and a top-loading cartridge slot. It was the best-selling console in Japan for years and received the Disk System add-on, and it remained in production until 2003.
