Portable terminal, 1971, Texas Instruments. The Silent 700 is a family of portable printing terminals introduced in 1971, so called because their thermal printer replaced the noise of a teletype with silence: a 5 x 7 dot matrix head prints on a roll of heat-sensitive paper at 30 characters per second. Most models include an acoustic coupler in the lid, so that a user could log into a computer from any telephone, and they were the standard travelling terminal of the 1970s and early 1980s. The exact model of this unit is to be verified.
