Storage device, 1983, Sinclair Research. The ZX Microdrive is a small tape-loop drive for the ZX Spectrum, launched in July 1983 as a cheaper alternative to floppy disks: each cartridge holds about 85 to 100 KB on an endless loop of tape and loads a program in a few seconds. Up to eight drives could be chained to the ZX Interface 1. The cartridges were fragile and not always reliable, but the system was widely used and was built into the Sinclair QL.
