Midrange computer, 1984, IBM. The System/36 was IBM's small business computer of the 1980s, the successor of the System/34, sold with the SSP operating system and RPG II to tens of thousands of small companies. The 5362 is the compact model, a desk-side unit introduced in 1984 that offered the same software as the larger 5360 at a lower price, with a few terminals and printers attached through twinaxial cable. System/36 applications were later carried over to the AS/400.
