Floppy disk drive, 1978, Apple. The Disk II is the 5.25 inch floppy disk drive designed by Steve Wozniak for the Apple II: with a controller card of only eight chips that did most of the work in software, it was far cheaper than competing drives and turned the Apple II into a serious computer.
