Palmtop computer, 1989, Atari. The Portfolio was the first IBM PC compatible palmtop, developed by the British company DIP and sold by Atari. It is the size of a VHS cassette, runs on three AA batteries for weeks and has a 40-column monochrome LCD, an 80C88 processor and a DOS-compatible operating system in ROM with built-in applications: a Lotus-compatible spreadsheet, a text editor, a diary, an address book and a calculator. Programs and data live on credit-card-sized memory cards; an expansion bus on the side takes the serial and parallel interfaces. It appears in the film Terminator 2.
