Video game console, 1990, Amstrad. The GX4000 was Amstrad's only console, released in Europe in September 1990. It is the cartridge-based version of the CPC hardware with an improved ASIC that adds hardware sprites, a 4096-colour palette and scrolling, the same electronics found in the CPC 464 Plus and 6128 Plus computers of that year. Arriving just before the 16-bit consoles and with few games, it failed within months and only about 15,000 units were sold; it is now a collector's item.
