Desktop computer, 1980, IBM. The 5120 Computing System is the desktop successor of the IBM 5100 and 5110, the machines that preceded the IBM PC by several years. It is a large unit with a built-in 9" monochrome screen, two 8" floppy drives of 1.2 MB and a keyboard, and it runs BASIC or APL from ROM on IBM's PALM processor, the same architecture as the 5100. It was sold to small businesses with accounting packages and could be extended with the 5114 diskette unit and a printer; it was replaced by the System/23 Datamaster and then by the PC.
