Video game console, 1994, Sony. The PlayStation was Sony's entry into the console market, born from the cancelled CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo. Released in Japan in December 1994 and in Europe in September 1995, it was built for 3D graphics with a MIPS processor and a geometry engine, used CD-ROM for cheap, large games and attracted third-party developers with good tools, and it became the first console to sell 100 million units. This is the original grey console.
