Video game console, 2006, Sony. The PlayStation 3 is Sony's seventh-generation console, released in Japan and America in November 2006 and in Europe in March 2007, built around the Cell processor developed with IBM and Toshiba and an Nvidia graphics chip, with a Blu-ray drive, a hard disk, HDMI output and free online play through the PlayStation Network. Its high launch price hurt it at first, but it sold over 87 million units in the slim and super slim versions that followed.
