Video game console, 1986, Sega. The Master System is the export version of the Sega Mark III, released in the United States in 1986 and in Europe in 1987, where it was a strong rival of the NES and sold well into the 1990s. It is a Z80 machine with a video chip derived from the TMS9918 and takes both cartridges and the credit-card-sized Sega Cards; the original model has a built-in game (Snail Maze or Hang-On) and an expansion port for the 3D glasses.
