Video game console, 1982, Atari. The all-black version of the 2600, nicknamed "Darth Vader", was introduced in 1982 when Atari renamed the Video Computer System after its model number. It keeps the four-switch layout adopted in 1980, with the difficulty switches moved to the back, but drops the woodgrain panel in favour of a plain black case. Technically it is identical to the earlier consoles and plays the whole library.
