Server, 1993, Silicon Graphics. The Challenge, code-named Eveready, is the family of servers and supercomputers with which SGI moved into the server market in 1993: shared-memory multiprocessors with up to 36 MIPS R4400, R8000 or R10000 processors on the POWERpath-2 bus, in a deskside (Challenge L) or rack (Challenge XL) cabinet, with the small Challenge S and DM models at the bottom. They ran IRIX and were used for scientific computing, databases and early large web servers; the line was replaced in 1996 by the Origin 2000.
